oSHIPc is a companion product to Inline Internet Systems' oPAYc Payment acceptance product. oSHIPc provides an easy to integrate API to the many common postal and courier services in North America. This is accomplished by providing the interface via an ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) driver.
The programmer queries a pseudo table of rates in the "database" to find the actual rate to ship a particular package from a source to destination address using one or more of the supported shippers. If more than one class of service is available for a given package, these are returned as multiple rows of data. While this appears to be a simple table lookup from the programmer's perspective, the drivers are actually querying the servers belonging to the shipper to ask for the current rates.
The drivers work with almost any application that supports ODBC drivers. Examples of these are Visual Basic, C, Java, Cold Fusion, PHP, ASP, etc., running on all current versions of MS Windows, FreeBSD, and Linux. The application may or may not have a web based front end as long as it has access to the internet with a TCP connection to talk to the other servers.
